Hi,
A friend gave me a nice chunk of mahogany to make a scoop from. Scoop # 2 and #3 looked good as well but where turned from redwood as was #1. Sanding the inside of these has to be the hardest part. I use PSA sandpaper on the handle end of a screw driver. A 2" disk fits in, but only sands the bottom and some of the edge.

Very nice work Jack! Very clean - great detail on the rings!

Dan - you can find the video here - just select AAW videos and scroll down to Soren Berger's demo on scoops.

Okay, you got me. As yours look so nice, I am on the way to the lathe to try one of these. One question though. Why is the inside so hard to sand? It appears that you could just reach inside and sand it with the lathe running. I am probably missing something though, so thought I would ask.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. The reason it is hard to sand the inside is that mine are only around 3" inside dia. and the handle is angled towards you so it will hit your hand if not very very careful. You can find the video clip under the AAW menu at this site. http://www.woodworkingchannel.com/dolphin/vidego_video_library.php (http://www.woodworkingchannel.com/dolphin/vidego_video_library.php)

Looks great. After watching the videos I knew 2 things: I have to try that and my knuckles will get hit!
Great job.

Jack,
You have definitely got the handle on scoops. I thought the last one was great too.
