here a soft maple crotch from that gloat i had a couple weeks ago, this is the peice that tried to take my knuckles with it, it has kind of a natural edge because my stepdad didnt cut straight with the chainsaw

more pics, some of the pictures look like they show toolmarks but i assure you that that is simply the grain

Flat bottom forms like this are very hard to turn...you did a good job!

That was an interesting form treatment on the edge, cCurtis. I have always liked the chalenge of turning flat bottoms. I concur withose above, Nice job. :):)

why is the flat bottom hard? this bottom slopes down towards the center about 1/8 of an inch, i though it was easy, the hard part on this peice for me was sanding, i made my own little sanding pad for the drill, but when i used it there are now a 2 thin spots on the rim, not that noticable though. the art teacher liked this peice but he said i shouldve taken a torch to the edge, that wouldve looked neat, but i had just put on the waterlox, i didnt want to see a fireball

The uneven edge is different I think it looks good. Great job keep up the good work.
