I have an old non-name brand combo belt disk sander. Over the years I've used the belt sander a lot, primarily for the final shaping of outside curves that are roughed out on the bandsaw or scroll saw. I have never used the disk sander portion of this machine.

I needed a fence for a 90 degree reference to the belt. Using some scrap oak, plywood, a short piece of t-track, two knobs and a couple of bolts for mounting the assembly to the machine, here's what I came up with:

87488

Here's a side view from the back that shows how the fence is assembled and mounted to the sander:

87489

Here's a top view showing how the fence can be adjusted to any position over the belt:

87490

Finally, this view shows that the fence is deadon 90 degrees to the belt:

87491

This simple fence works perfectly for my needs. It was almost free to build and took only a little over an hour to make.

Thanks for looking.

Great thinking. I just purchased a Shopsmith sander because it would do just like what you did to yours.
