A while back I found this scrap 4x4 sticker on the shop floor, and saw this figure next to the knot, and said to myself "self, we're gonna take this home and make a box". And that's what I did.

Critiques welcome. I think I know what I'd change on this box so anything you say won't hurt my feelings. I'm trying to get a handle on form and proportions.

My photo seemed overexposed at manual +1, so I may go back to +2/3. I'll keep working on the photos. I may have to invest in a nicer camera to get what I want. The Canon A410 is a nice little point and shoot, but I'm not getting the detail I want for stills. I've got to get a tripod.

It's about 5 inches tall and has one coat of Gel Poly on it.

Jim, that is a beauty. The average guy looking at this better than average piece can hartly tell where the top meets the botom. I like the design and the wood. The top is super also.

Jim - really nice looking box! Beautiful wood, great form and nice detail work! Don't know what you were thinking about changing but I would leave this one alone! Very nice work!

Jim,

That's a good box. I like the flair to the joint. Maybe and this is a just maybe, if the top edge and the bottom edge were slightly large diameter than the middle band it would look better. Still go concave from top to joint and bottom to joint. I could just be seeing a perspective problem in the picture not real dimension but its my thought. Keep making box out of floor scraps and you'll be fine.

Looks great. But is it really a box???? or a clynder.

It's a box because the creator called it a box. :D

Jim, I like it. I like the subtle convex transition from top and bottom to the joint, too.
Well done.

Thanks for the kind words, helpful critiques, and the jokes. I appreciate them all.:)

I'll try to remember the suggestions next time I turn boxes. I forget stuff so easily these days...:o
