I have the Byrd Shelix installed on my 6" PM jointer and I have a couple of questions:

1 - What is the proper alignment of the cutterhead in relation to the outfeed table, that is, it aligned even with the outfeed table or slightly above it (.001-.002).

2 - Is this measurement take from the highest insert next to the fence and the one on the next spiral furthest away from the fence.

Thanks

Most instructions to align the cutters to the outfeed table instruct as follows;
1) you to put a board with a flat edge on the outfeed table and laying on top of the cutterhead.
2) Put a mark on the board at the very edge of the outfeed table.
3) Rotate the cutterhead backwards until the board stops moving. If the board didn't move, the outfeed table is too high. Once the board stops moving, put another mark on the board.
4) I've read that you want the mark to be 1/8" long. If it's too long, raise the table, if it's too short, lower it.

I actually shoot for only 1/16" of movement.
