Since a recent computer and Win XP upgrade a lot of new fonts show up in the Corel drop down. Some of them are grayed out.

What does that signify?

Most maybe all of the grayed out ones do not work.

I know it most likely means the font is not installed but where is Corel picking up the info that the font should be there?

Is there an easy way to move some fonts that are not often used out of the main font list but still have them available if needed?

I have many strange seldom (never) used fonts cluttering up the selection drop down but I know the first one I delete I will need next week.

Also had a lot of trouble with Arial font. It just disappeared from some things even through it showed in the windows font folder.

Searched the web for answers and found that it does not seem to be an isolated event. Many apparently have had this problem with various causes and repairs. I got a new file of the arial font off another computer, deleted the old font file and added the new one. Seemed to fix the problem.

Best way to control your fonts is to use Corel Font Navigator.
Start>Programs>Corel Draw>Font Navigator. I do not have an answer as to why you have some grayed out.

I also have a lot of strange fonts showing up but I think it's due to the new version of Office 2007 I installed.

I agree with Joe, use Font Navigator. If you don't have it installed it's on your Corel disc and it's a must have.
