Below are 3 views of a nested set of 3 Eucalyptus burl bowls I finished just 3 days before my recent bandsaw accident. This will be the last set finished for quite a while.
The burl came off of a tree I drove past everyday for almost a year, I could see the burls on the trunk from the freeway and drooled over them every morning. One morning on the way to the office I saw that they had finally cut down the tree along with several others on the same vacant lot. Fearing that the tree would be hauled off before I got a chance to harvest the burls I called my wife from the office and begged her to bring my chainsaw and gear to work, I was going to go harvest what I could on my lunch hour. Luckily she obliged and I was able to harvest 5 burls off of the tree in 90+ degree weather before I had to head back to work.
This set was cored from a single Eucalyptus burl using the McNaughton set.
The cracks were filled inside and out with coffee grounds and CA glue.
