I've been watching a few of the AAW video's on the woodworking channel and thought this wood be a good project to try. This project is from the Soren Berer clip. The only dry wood I had was redwood so I didn't put any beads on the handle or spend a great deal of time on sanding and finishing. I really just wanted to see how hard it would be. Turned out OK and was a lot of fun. I will have to try it on some hardwood soon. Here is the link to the site if you want to try one. You have to go up to the AAW link and scroll down to Soren Berger

Very nice work Jack - looks just like the one Soren demos! You did a really nice job on not getting a lot of tear out! Looking forward to seeing one out of hardwood!

Absolutely fascinating! Beautiful work. That's one of those projects that when someone looks at it, they have trouble figuring out how it's done out of one piece of wood.

I followed your link and watched the video. You almost have to know what you are doing to make one of these scoops! Very nice job!

That's a great looking scoop, Jack. Certainly does not look as though you scrimped on sanding and finishing. Can not wait to see the next one.

Good job. I watched that Soren demo, and it was sure hard to follow! Glad you could produce on, and it looks great.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I didn't think it was that hard of a project. From start to finish it took about 1 1/2 hours for the first one. I hope to have my high school students do some next school year. The most important thing is to get the sphere as close to perfect as one can. If it isn't, the thickness will vary at the rim and look bad when hollow it out.
