A couple weekends ago, there was a guy near by that had walnut for 1.50 bd ft. I thought that it was a good price and went up to see him. Locally walnut is around $5 for fas. I started picking out my boards most of them wide at 10 and 12 inches. Since this guy really did not know what a board foot was I told him how to calculate it. It turned out that he was really wanting it gone, and I gave him some money and I left with around 450 bd ft, which included a piece that was 8ft long 10 inches wide and 2 inches thick. I ended up paying .45cents per board foot for mostly #1 and select boards. We were both happy as can be.

This picture is just some of it I have some scattered all over my house.

That is an awesome deal and even better since both of you parted happy.

BTW, I priced some 8/4 air-dried Black Walnut at a local sawmill and it was over $300 for the 50 bd ft I needed. Wish I could run into a deal like yours.

Matt, It looks like you got ripped off, I see a knot in one of the boards.

( O.K. I admit it, I'm jealous)

Nice Matt, had a similiar experience two weeks ago. Saw an add in the paper for 130 pieces, at least 8' long of White and Red oak, $100. I called quick, told the guy I would take it. Turns out he's a minister, someone owed him money they didn't have, gave him the oak. He was selling the oak to get his money back. It worked out to be somewhere over 500bdft of oak, 8, 10, and 12 foot long, 8" and 10" wide and 1" thick.

I gave him an extra $25 for the collection plate. I didn't want to feel bad about stealing from a minister. We have to be careful about who we piss off in this world.

I did not buy him a drink, but he said that he has another 700BF to get rid of and we have a oral agreement that when he gets some more of it planned he will call me and I will go buy some more. So for now it sounds like I have a reliable walnut source.

Great, now I know where I can get some oak when I need it (Northumberland);)
