my guard was pretty battered up. the front was cracked the flap gone the holes cracked out from a few small kickbacks. I had removed it for awhile but I was getting tired of the dust flying around without a good dc on the hood.
so I draw up the parts and cut them on my cnc router. then glued them up and had a new replacement head that fit a 4" hose. I needed to add a bit more counterweight to the back but it is better balanced then the original one ever was.
I made it a bit longer and I had to notch the back to keep it from hitting the bar.
the bigger air holes seem to help the dust flying out the side.the guard weight's more then the original so I had to add ballast. but it actually is smoother then the original was. I think the extra weight helps with the hose.

Looks nice Steve! The bigger hose should really help with airflow. The stock hose really needs a shop vac to get enough airflow to do anything.

BTW, you should link your two web sites together. I was starting to wonder if you were out of the plane business.

after thinking a bit I may have been better off only having holes on the left hand side.
I had a 4" hose on the original but it was a make do thing. it would be nice to have a narrower guard though.
Now I am thinking of making the sides from strip brushes. but I will see how well this keeps the side flying dust in check.

Looks good Steve. I built a similar one of approximately the same size and I agree that it would be nice if it were narrower - tough to get used to for me so far. I like the idea of the strip brushes.
