Dan - do you want steam or diesel-electric? Passenger or freight? Do a quick google image search for some ideas.

Its for a Park where the last steam train ran here in 1958.
Thanks for the suggestions...

That's probably the easiest thing to find. If you knew what kind of steamer thay had, you could search out the exact loco.

In 1958, the end of the steam era, the most common large passenger trains were Northern Class 4-8-4, and for smaller passenger trains 4-6-2 Pacific Class locos. If it was for freight, then big trains were pulled by 4-6-6-4 Challenger Class, and smaller trains by 2-8-2 Mikado Class locos. There were lots of other steamers used by the smaller railroads. Also many roads had their own favorite locos.

If i had to choose, I would say almost every railroad had Mikados for freight and Pacific's for passenger trains somewhere in their roster.

So how does that help you? If you google images 2-8-2 Mikado, or 4-6-2 Pacific, then thousands of pictures, line art, ect will show up.

Also you can do searches at Railimages.com

Now you see, who the hell would have known that? Well done Robert, if I didn't know better I'd say you might be an anorak!

Frank! Robert is the "Guru" of trains knowledge, believe me, he could easily pass at any game show related to trains, and win the million dollar question :D.

Frank - you might have to explain what an anorak is to us Americans! (I know what it is:D)

Anorak! haha! We do have a word for it here in the US, we are called Foamers!

I roll with a group of Foamers, I admit! We call ourselves the BAZ BoyZ. We are so fanatic about trains, and z scale model trains, that 3 out of the 5 guys in the car on our last outing bought laser engravers to help us build more trains.

If you are curious, and like a bit of humor, you can read of our last trip to Roseville Yard here:
