I recently made this keepsake box for a neighbor's daughter (Chaya), for her 8th birthday. It's about 11.5" x 7.5" x 4.75". I used purpleheart, canarywood, redheart and ebony. The finish is wax over blonde shellac. I usually apply boiled linseed oil before the shellac, to enhance the grain, but in this case I was more concerned about keeping the colors natural.

Very nice blend of woods. How did you secure your mitered corners. Didn't see a spline.

There are three 1/4" dowels in each corner, one in the lid, two in the base. I drilled the holes with my Dowelmax. The lid and bottom are floating, the top held centered with a dab of glue at the center of each end.

I really like the way the grain wraps at the cornors. Good design. Has a understated elegance, yet the purple heart says Zoowie! Yep. Now that's a box.

Very clean lines which leads to extremely nice. I'm sure she will like it now.. but have a feeling she will like it even more as she gets older. The box is a keeper.

Well done...
