I bought a shop fox 9" front vise from Grizzly. Put it on the bench, and the front angles a bit. It is drilled and came with flat head screws for wood vise faces, but what is interesting is the angle. Should I plane the fixed face so it is even with the front edge of my bench? I notched it in so that I could have it even, and then could use a sliding deadman with holes to support long pieces on edge. If I put a wood face on the fixed jaw, the bottom sticks out past the edge, while the top can be even. Tempted to plane that face so the top of the vise will be tight when closed. Any comments?

If the angle tips in at top I would leave it as vise springs out when tightened..

I like my vise jaws flush with bench front so I and lean on then or clamp boards to face.

Glue a strip of leather at the top to compensate, it will crush some and also you can skieve it with a sharp paring chisel if need be.
