Hi all,

Within the last year or so I recall picking up a copy of Fine Woodworking and on the back page was one or two asian inspired boxes which I think were ebony or perhaps another dark wood like Wenge. I'm try to locate the issue. Anyone out there recall the issue?

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Kent

You may be thinking of Issue #189 (Feb, 2007). The back cover is titled "West Meets East."

On the back cover of Issue #191 (June 2007) there are three boxes plus a stool that have "unique" joinery by Kinaro Yazawa.

I have scanned in the back cover of issue #191. Is this it?

Jeff and John,

Thanks for your efforts but #191 is not it. I kick myself for not buying it.

The East meets West # 189 issue may be possible. The piece or pieces were distinctly very dark wood.

I'm in the beginning stages of making an urn for a family member and thought of that back cover as an inspiration. My creative juices are a bit on overload.

Thanks to all for the help.

Thanks Roy!!!! that's the issue and thanks so much for scanning it.

Maybe a bit fancy for the urn I'm making but it certainly helps with the process!!

The boxes on the back cover I was looking for are crafted by Philip Weber.

He has some amazing designs. See his work here

Of course, you are now required to post pics of the urn upon completion. If it doesn't show up, we will know that you were just shuckin' us!
