i finally got that pesky walnut finished, the one that broke the toolrest. took forever to sand. when you look at it right in the light it sparkles as if there is tiny rocks or mineral deposits in it, i wonder if this is part of the reason it is so hard?.....

found this peice up in the loft of the school woodshop split it with a friend and this is what came out. his peice looked just as good. i was planning on taking it to the art show i mentioned in the other post, the art teacher said i could probably go for $180, does this sound right or reasonable? this peice is 16x4in with 1/8in wall thickness

IF you've got more of that Walnut you don't want to mess with, I'll take it off your hands. (How far are you from Philly?)

I like the bowl including the form. I have turned a fair amount of walnut and enjoy it. I'm waiting for a buddy to cut a black walnut tree down. He has promised me lots of wood.

Very, very nice bowl Curtis! That's really nice grain and color...I've never turned walnut but it's on my to do list.

What finish did you use?

Nice. The picture does not give it justice. I would not have thought it to be that large. Hope you find some more to do. Let it know what it sells for if you sell.

for the inside curve i just took the long tool i found at school, its a Robert Sorby or something like that?,.... its the roughing gouge with the longer flute? i turned it on its side and used the tip didnt take to long to do put i thought it would break because the whole thing just started squeking. then to fix the tearout from that/chatter, i took a peice of 40grit for about 80minutes to get ride of it
