Bottle Stoppers

Just curious as to other peoples experience with making bottle stoppers. I have used the Ruth Niles stoppers and like them. I just don't like the way they sit proud of the bottle. I don't care for the plastic because (IMHO) it is not elegant enough.

I do like the cork but I am concerned with the seal as cork is usually placed on its side once it is opened to maintain the integrity of the seal. Also wonder how the cork will hold up from bottle to bottle?

I too didn't like that. Ruth e-mailed me a pic of how she has been experimenting with the recessing of the stoppers. If I had a camera I would send pics of the ones I have been making them.

I recess about 3/16"- 1/4", leaving an apron so to speak around the bottom so the lip of the bottle is covered.

The base ends up being just a bit wider, however I think they look much better.

Everyone i have sold these to, or shown them to, also like them much better.
