I recently finished our master bathroom cabinet, which replaced a 1970's one made of chrome. The wood is cherry, and the carving is based on an art nouveau design. I also made the horned lizard tiles.

Very impressive. I am technically competent but far from an artist. Real artists both amaze and annoy me. :D

Touch of jealousy here.

Tom,

Beautiful job! Have you done any intarsia? Looks like perhaps you have. Very nice work.

Tom,

I had to look that word up. Yes, I have done a sort of poor man’s intarsia. The cherry doors were carved out of a single piece, first outlined with a router then shaped using carving chisels.

But in the 1980’s I went to crafts fairs selling “woodcarvings”, which was Western red cedar pieces cut out on a bandsaw, shaped on a sander, stained individually then glued together onto a piece of plywood. The antelope is an example of that technique. It measure about 36” across.

Thanks, Tom
