VersaLaser Rotary Accuracy

Hi,

We have a VL-300 along with their rotary attachment. We have some small cylindrical-ish parts we need to mark as accurately and repeatably as possible.

My question is does anyone know if the Rotary Attachment returns to the same position at the start of each part? And how accurate that position is?

BTW, to do this we will most likely have to replace the stock part holding cone with a custom part to position our parts more accurately. So if anyone has any experience with doing something like this I welcome your input.

I don't have a versalaser, but I'm assuming it's pretty much the same as mine.

I'm not exactly sure of what you are asking, but on occasion, some glasses require me to do a second pass for various reasons. The second pass aligns exactly with the first pass, so I'm sure the home position is dead on with the first pass.

I have your exact setup. Did my first job the other day where I had to mark the same location on every item.

Found out by pure trial and error that by using the advanced driver I was able to locate the engraving between some silkscreened art on the piece.

Also used the blue painters tape to mask the area and engraved on a very very light setting to test my layout. Marked the tape but did not burn through to the piece. Once I had my layout nailed and determined what I use as a key on the item to line up on, I was able to repeat it consistently.

To answer your questions - yes it starts at the same spot so once you have your layout down and place the piece in the same each time you can be very accurate and repeat. Have not had to make any jigs/adapters.

The Rotary attachment for the Versa does return to the starting point each time it is run. You must be using the current software 1.28.5 with win XP or 1.29 with Vista. We have adapted the three jaw chuck onto the rotary and it works very well. We used the 2" chuck from Buck Chuck USA.

Do you have pictures of your modified rotary with the check in place? Also, which Buck Chuck did you use?
