It's interesting to me that I can't find a set of pairing chisels at Sears or Harbor Freight. On the web, I find only the expensive pairing chisels at stores for woodworkers. Does anyone know of a place where one can buy an inexpensive set of the "crank neck" type of chisels?

Stephen,
As far as I know, no has made them since the 60"s or so. At one time there were some NOS for sale, but I can't remember who had them...it was 3 or 4 years ago.
Vintage ones were typically used by pattern makers and I've seen them referred to a "pattern maker's chisels" but they don't seem to be common and command top dollar.

Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&cat=1,41504,41539&p=49944)carries some by Hirsch. They have a bend in the iron rather than the crank neck like the old ones. They're not inexpensive, but not top dollar items.
