Hello All,

Just how stiff of a wire brush can you use to clean the teeth of a saw blade without damaging it.

Thanks

Chris

I would recommend a BRASS wire brush (not steel) along with a thinner if you have a real pithed up blade.

I'll do on a limb and say that nothing you will do by hand, short of a file on the brazing will hurt it at all.

You certainly can't hurt the carbide without some help from caustics or diamond.

I usually use whatever cheap brush I have handy.

Both brass and stiff nylon bristles work fine.

I use a small brass brush that I use to clean my golf clubs.

+1 on the brass wire brush. But I think that even a stainless steel brush would be okay.

I use brass too. You can get them at Harbor Freight.

HF often sells a set of three brushes for less than a dollar. There is a nylon, brass, and stainless steel brush in the set. I use the nylon, and brass ones on my blades.

I've never used anything stiffer than a toothbrush and a solution (Woodcraft) of pitch/resin remover.

A soft brush should do it. A Cheap scrub brush.

The idea is to soften the material first. In commercial operations they soak the tools in cleaner until all the crud just rinses off.
