Here are a couple bowls just finished. The first one is a save I made on a maple bowl made for the person that gave me the wood. It was one of the maple type trees that has dark red leaves in the summer. When I cut the blank I knew that the bark inclusion was going to be a problem. Took some CA to hold it together, but it turned out nice. 6" dia. x 4 1/4" You can see how much of the bowl the inclusion went thru in the second picture of the first bowl. The second bowl was turned by one of my Ninth grade students. It is turned from a black locust burl he found. He sanded the edge so much that it makes the thickness look uneven, but it was vary even until he sanded it. He has another large bowl turned from it that is drying.

Jack, I really like the maple with the bark inclusion. The shape is just right for me.

Thanks everyone, I wish that I'd got more of the maple from this man. I got 5 large rounds before he took it to the dump. One never knows what is inside the wood waiting to come out.

Jack - very nice pieces and save on the inclusions which I feel give them real character - beautiful work!

My dad always said - never pass up anything for free - especially wood!:)

A great HF and NE bowl. Two things I've yet to attempt. I really like the form on the bowl. Looks like a flower blossom.
