I have been looking for a band saw and this one appeared on Craigs list. It is a 12" Craftsman Band Saw, 2 speed 1.5 hp, 6" depth cut, Tilt head 0 to 45 degrees, 80" blade, Rip fence, 23x27 inch work surface. and 1/2 inch sanding belt. Anybody have any experience with this saw? Comments welcome. Asking price is $150.00

Thanks Mike

I have a 12" Craftsman that is a little bit older than that one. I like mine, but one of these days I hope to move up to a 14" or 16" saw.

I have read where several people were not as happy with the tilt head model. I have no first hand experience, but only passing along whet I have read over time.

Mike,

I have one that I bought used and was my first bandsaw, that said it only has two wheels, blade tracking has never been a real issue for the saw. Blades are easy to come by and are usually very reasonable, but resaw capability is not the best, so depending on what you intend to use it you may find that you may want at least a 14 inch saw. About the tilt head, I have never been a fan, it does the job but there are easier ways to do angle cuts.

I have this saw, but mine has the enclosed base. Overall, I like it. It does the job, and the large table is nice to work with. The only bad side, is the way the top moves for beveled cuts. I would much prefer a saw where the table tilts, instead of the whole saw. If you get a good deal, I'd take it.

Mike, where are you located. I have one about 60 miles South of Chicago I would let go for 1/3 that price.

Sorry your so far away. Not worth shipping it.

I'm getting rid of it because I want to resaw more than 6". I'm also tired of the pully coming loose. When this happens, the belt rides up on the flange of the pulley and cuts the belt. I wear hearing protection and don't always catch it. Tired of replacing the belt.

This has been a good starter band saw but I want more now.

For what its worth I have come across the 14 inch models often in the 100 dollar range. I have one as well and it was free, the guy upgraded, and I too am about to as well so I was going to give it away.
