Stan,
The detail on this platter is great. The inlay really stands out, especially with the light maple. Your rim detail adds alot to the piece, too. How deep is the platter, an inch or so?
Nice job

I very much like this. I'm just sitting here trying to figure out how this is done. I assume that veneer is cut with a sharp edged knife. I'm also thinking that I would probably never be able to do that even if I did know 'how' it is done. Kudos to you!

Outstanding.

I would be interested in knowing how you did that. I am looking to inlay some on a platter that I made and I have been trying to figure out exactly how I am going to do it.

I agree with all the others. This takes a plain platter and takes it to the highest level of craftsmanship. Excellent work. Were the inlays done with a scroll saw or were they done with a knife.??? What is the finish on the piece. One other thing the inlay work looks like it has black edges that make it stand out. Is this the case or is it the photograghy??? If so how did you do that???

Thanks for all of the comments and questions. The platter is just a little over one inch deep. I finished it with antique oil and buffed. I sealed the inlay pieces prior to gluing. I used black CA to set them in place and give the black edges. Then a very light scrape to remove excess glue followed by sanding.

Stan

You answered some questions but did not mention how you cut the inlays??? Also you mentioned black CA. Where did you get that and does it come in any other colors or is this your own concoction???
