Wondering if anybody has watched the history channel's modern marvels episode on the lumber yard? I just started watching a bit of it on DVR tonight...pretty cool show.

First segment showed a 50" bandsaw pushing an 8" blade capable of resawing 300FT/minute. Wow, that's making my 14" look a little inadequate!

Peter,

I watched the program and enjoyed it very much. The huge bandsaw, like so many other commercial tools shown was very old. I wondered whether such equipment is still being produced, and, if so, how much that new equipment must cost. It seems the capital expenditure necessary to build a new, relatively small production lumber yard would, in fact, be cost prohibitive.

Peter....I watched the show. It was interesting what a big role lumberyards played centuries ago. Quite important....and influential!

I also watched it. I found the segment on the lumberyard being guarded like a treasury because it was used for shipbuilding, and thus directly affected a country's naval power interesting.
