I'm hooked. I joined a couple of months ago and asked a question about getting started. Based on those responses, I read a couple of books a signed up for a class. For $50 I signed up for a pen turning class at Rocklers. This is the result of my first attempt ever at putting hand held steel to wood (curly pynmar) on a lathe:
I have a bit to learn. The flair at the end is a design I saw once and was curious about. I thought it would serve as a finger rest while writing. Doesn't work so well. But I love it anyhow! I like the way the grain lines up when its open and looks like a chevron when its closed. The burned rings were a result of the instructor having a wire near by. I need to learn about taking pictures and I have a lot learn about turning beads and coves. I am looking forward to learning it, even if it takes a life time!
