I am not the type to ask others to do my reasearch nor do I want to waste anyones time so I searched the archives for all threads about the grizzly G1021X2 planer. There was a lot of usefull information but I have a couple of unanswered questions.

Does this planer have a Byrd head? In archived posts this question is asked but never answered. The picture looks like it does but I am not sure if it is a generic picture they use for all the planers.

My second queston is about the table locks.... Locking these down during every cut would be a lot of work. Is this a necessary step?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

It is a carbide insert head but not a Byrd brand head. I have one and have been very pleased with the way it performs. I do not lock it down until the final cut.

I have the 1033X and I have never used the table locks.

The 1021X2 has a spiral cutterhead, but it may be a Grizzly design and not made by Byrd.

Is the head you have the same as in this pic? If so it looks like the cutting edge of each insert is skewed like the Byrd and not parallel like some helical heads.

Yes, but they do ship to the border (less than 2 hours for me) or Muncy is 6 hours (one way).
