Engraving pen clips?

I have had a few people asking me if I can get my pens engraved, I said yes, I can send the barrels away to get laser engraved. All of them said they would like the clip engraved not the barrels.
So this bring me to my question. Is it possible to get the clips of pens engraved? I was thinking about taking it too a jewelry store. Since it is only gold plating will this ruin the clip and if not would I have to get it sealed some how?

Engraving through the plating will expose the underlying metal and allow for oxidation, unless it is sealed. Much cheaper, quicker, and more durable to engrave the barrels.

How wide of a pen clip are we talking?

I would be willing to try if we can come up with some clips.

Its just a name from top to bottom that we are trying for.

They would be slimline clips, so 3/16" wide.
