I stumbled on this site that appears to be dedicated to sharpening and lists a number of useful products. In particular they list the finer grits of PSA silicone carbide paper, up to 2500, for $1 per 9x11 sheet.

While I can't recommend them yet as I just placed my first order for a dozen sheets, that's about 1/2 of what PSA SC costs from other sources.

Jim, when you receive your order, will you post your impression of the product and if possible the manufacturer? I have bought silicon carbide paper from some discount suppliers and have sometimes found the supply to be "less than useful". Safer to go to the hardware and buy the "tried and true".

I've used both these guys for loose grit (http://www.kingsleynorth.com/gradedsc.html) and these guys for sandpaper (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/industrialsupply/abrasive-sheets-silicon-carbide-waterproof-9--by-11--paper-sheets.html) and had good service with both. Prices were good too.
