I'd be interested in reading that. Hitachi had a great reputation for their large plunge routers. Been wondering about these smaller ones.

The consensus seems to be that it is a good router, but some folks believe you'd be better off saving up for the Bosch. (difficult to find accessories, Chinese fit & finish)

Yes, Jeremy, I do know the Bosch is much better. I own several Bosch 1617 routers and consider them the best of the best. Their motors are unbelievebly strong and bullet proof. The old US-made PC 690's were bulletproof also, just not as strong.

I still wonder about the durability of the Hitachi. I've smoked up a couple of the well-touted Makitas and have no respect for them. They couldn't even handle 3/4 of the load I placed on a regular old 690.

I've dug up some more reviews of this-

Seems some of the CNC folks are buying these now instead of the PC 690s. They seem to be holding up very well and have near nothing on the runout scale.

I was JUST about to pull the trigger on this, but did a little more research. I like the Hitachi, but I was impressed from the reviews of the DW618PK. Lowes is having a sale, and I had a 'project starter' card, so I got the DW618PK kit for $193. I suppose I'll end up getting the D-base at some point, but for now this will keep me satisfied :)

No harm in that, John. The DeWalt 6-series are some good routers also. Everybody knows they have the smoothest plunger.
