Do you use your central dust collector at your tool grinder or do you just let the filings fall freely? Any fears of hot metal going into your collector?

Bernie - I have my grinder mounted on a homemade pedestal which raises it about 4' off the floor. I do not use the dust collector at the grinder - instead I wait until I am done with the turning and then use the shop-vac to clean up the grinder area.

I wouldn't put a DC on my grinder because you are liable to start a marshmellow roast in your DC. I do like Steve does and use the shop vac at the end of the day when I know they are cool.

Shop vac, after the sparkies have had a chance to cool off

No DC near my grinder for the reasons stated above......You could end up with a smoldering fire in your DC.

There are dust collectors designed for metal, but no way I would vacuum them into my DC or shop vac hot.

No DC!!!! I have a dedicated shop VAC with a home made water bath seperator (designed for sanding sheat rock).

I usually try to use the shop vac when I'm dressing the wheels to keep the glass (or sand) particles coming off the wheel out of the ambient air. Dangerous stuff!
