Picked this up recently and it's the first i've seen other than on the web and was wondering if it's a rare bird. The finished shape of the handle makes me think it's not all that old, maybe '40's? It's shape isn't quite as refined as some of my older back saws.

It looks like it hasn't been sharpened, or at least was done by skilled hands and the handle doesn't show any tell tale finger marks so i'm guessing it's seen little use. Very little of the brass plating on the back remains and there is some pitting but not too bad.

I plan on sharpening it up and putting it to use.

A couple pics, one with the #9 for size comparison.

Well i gave it a quick sharpening of just 2 light strokes per tooth, without jointing or setting, and it cuts like a dream in 3/4" oak, straight and smooth. I'm gonna like this thing.

My only wish is that the handle was a bit more comfortable so i'm tempted to smooth over the edges and give it a good BLO/wax job.

Pretty cool Brian.

Here are 4 saws I picked up for $5 each.

Maybe you can tell me a little about them.

Brian,

Send it to me, and I'll return it needing more than a couple of file strokes!

Nice find, and I'm glad it will be a user!
