I just purchased a Jet 14 inch band saw and it doesn't have a light to illuminate the work. I'm looking for a small, high-intensity light that will mount to the saw. I thought this might be a good place to get an idea of what others are using.

I've got a gooseneck lamp with a magnetic base. You can stick it anywhere, or de-mount it if it gets in the way of some particular operation. IIRC, it is a no-name which cost $20 or so.

I just bought a light from Rockler that would be great for a band saw. It's http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=9908&filter=lamp and on sale right now.

I've got the HF light too. I would consider it one of the HF "gems."

Cary or Keith,
I need a light like that too. Does the light from HF come with a magnetic base or do you have to attach it another way? Thx.

I have 2 of these and they work great:

Lance,

The reviews on Amazon for this light aren't very favorable. Will your lights cling when hung on a vertical surface? I think that would be the best way to use one on a band saw where the table surface is small and the light would be in the way there.

Magnetic and quite strong. I actully glued a piece of thin cardboard to the magnet to weaken it because it grabs so hard. Definilty an HF gem.

Terry... I hang the light on the upper wheel door and have never had a problem. It stays put pretty well. It probably could be stronger, but I dont think its a problem. I liked the first one well enough, I bought a second one,

I have a magnetic base gooseneck on my drill press.

Just replaced the incandescent bulb with a 13 watt fluorescent floodlight. I highly recommend it. It stays cool, throws a ton of diffuse light, and I believe it will be more durable due to the plastic housing around the bulb. Only drawback is the warmup period.

I'm now using these bulbs all over my shop and they are working out very well.

Just a thought..

ditto on the Deltas. They cling to anything as long as its ferrous. Dick B.

Here are a couple of pics of the Deltas: I would recommend them.

I have the Rocklers' mentioned above and they work fine. They come with a mag base but also a clamping attachmen, useful when you are fiddling with the dark innards of your bandsaw.;)

Glenn,
Thanks for the info on the HF magnetic light. I just checked out the advanced flyer from HF and found these lights will go on sale starting April 5 thru 13 for $7. each. Otherwise they are usually $10.
