But not using their proprietary abrasives what are you using & how are you sticking it to the glass plate?

Thanks.

Bart,

For my Work Sharp adventure:

I bought a selection of hole-less 6" PSA discs from http://www.supergrit.com For me, the ones that seem to have the most promise are their "Black SC" discs in 220, 400 and 1000 grits. Fast service too.

For paper without the PSA adhesive, I have a can of cheap Duro Spray-On Adhesive that seems to work just fine. I suspect any brand will do.

I'm also going to try some Micro Mesh discs from these guys
http://www.sisweb.com/micromesh/mmr_discs.htm#6_0_psa
That is, if and when they ever get them in stock again.

Poke around on both of those websites. You might find a hidden treasure or two. I plan on looking some more also.

BTW, a little trick I learned from my father-in-law. An empty 45 caliber brass casing makes an almost perfect punch for cutting a hole in a blank disc. First mount the abrasive disc on the Work Sharp glass plate, turn it upside down on a piece of scrap, drop the 45 casing into the hole in the glass plate (with the open end facing down). A couple of taps with a hammer (don't miss), and bingo, your good to go. You could probably even sharpen the rim of the casing on the Work Sharp so you wouldn't have to hit it so hard.

I happend to be in sears and they had psa 6" discs on clearance and needed some course discs to get a rough edge on a plane blade (it was taking forever with the finer paper as it was way out in all dimensions). I used the trusty pocket knife to cut a hole as there was not one in the disc.

Ah, so, here is how to solve the sisweb problem.
Go to www.micro-surface.com
Order the discs at the same price you would have gotten from sisweb.
They ship same-day as order by UPS.

Micro-surface is who sisweb is getting them from anyway, which is why it always shows them out of stock: they only order them from micro-surface when they get orders for discs.

(This is easy to confirm, if you order discs from sisweb, they will say micro-surface.com on the bag :) )

I use 3600, 6000, and 12000 discs and don't bother with leather honing anymore.

I was looking into these sharpeners. How do you guys like them? What do you use yours for. I've been using waterstones.
