I have a friend looking for a good TS in the $700 to $900 range. I haven't been keeping up with WW equipment the way I used to, so I'm hoping to get some advice from those of you who have kept current.
TIA!

Cheers,
Kurt

Hi Kurt - If your friend has 220v and can push the budget just a bit, a Grizzly 1023SL (http://www.grizzly.com/products/g1023sl) 3hp cabinet saw is about the most bang for the buck going, and its a saw few of us will ever outgrow. $1092 to the door....$995 if you pick it up yourself. A good used cabinet saw may help keep within budget.

If there's no 220v, and/or the budget is firm, and/or used is not an option, a good hybrid is the next best bet. There are several high end hybrids within budget. I'd look at the Jet Proshop 708482k (http://woodworking.jettools.com/Products.aspx?Part=708482K), Steel City 35601 (http://steelcitytoolworks.com/products_tools.cfm?section=2&category=12&tool=35601), Craftsman 22124 (http://www.epinions.com/reviews/Craftsman_Professional_10_in_Table_Saw_22124), Grizzly G0478 (http://www.grizzly.com/products/g0478), or GI 50-220CM1 (http://www.general.ca/pagemach/machines/50220220ca.html). All have received top honors or high marks by various magazines, and all should be very capable with proper setup and good blade selection. FWIW, I've been very happy with my 22124 for ~ 3 years now.

Uhhh, I can't think of anything to add so I'll just say . . . What Scott said! I also run a 22124. I made the decision based on not having 220v, cabinet mounted trunnions (my table mounted trunnions were a challenge) and a lot of good reviews.

Of course I added 220 a few months ago, doh! If I would have had 220 at the time of purchase I would have probably gone for a 3HP. Even though I now have the power issue resolved, I have no plans to upgrade the saw.
