Here's my latest "ribbon". It's comprised of 2 half-bowls and 10 quarter-bowls made from redwood compound-mitered staves. 24" tall including the granite stand, sandblasted after assembly, finished with spray satin lacquer.

That is very nice. I really like the one type of wood and the ribbon itself does all the talking.

Malcolm - very impressive work as always!

I do find that I like this one more than most as it has a natural/organic feel to it. That could be a result of the use of a single type/color of wood or it could be the rounded and thick looking edges. Can't quite put my finger on it but it reminds me of some type of lifeform from the ocean. Guess that is why your work appeals to so many - we all see something different!

Amazing imagination - thanks for posting!

"Gob smacked" is the term I was thinking of.
Sorry, aussie terminology.;)
Maybe Allen Neighbours can translate it into yank.

Malcolm, you're in a different world than the rest of us..! I'm absolutely fascinated by your use of half/quarter bowls to make ribbon shapes. The whole construction-deconstruction-reconstruction process is just amazing.

Malcolm, aside from the obvious that this is yet another wonderful piece by you, the sandblasting really adds another element to your work. This piece feels more "primordial" and even more alive due to the texture. I hope you do some more using this effect!
