Is it a platter? Or a bowl? How about an object of art? You decide! This is my last Ambrosia piece for a while. It's big by my standards. The blank was about 19 x 2. As I stated in previous posts, I love this wood. It turns, sands and finishes well. I turned it thin, about 3/16 to 1/4 inch. I sand it to 2000 grt. It's finished with 4 coats of poly sprayed with my new "touch-up" gun. The more I finish it, the more the grain jumps out. I'm going to let it sit for a month or so and give it a buff/wax job. In the last photo I am ready to turn the foot. Thanks to Tom Steyer for the EXCELLENT rotary adapter. The photos, although I'm trying to improve, are a disgrace to the art of photography. I hope you get the idea.

That is really artwork. The pics aren't that bad, either. I need to find some ambrosia maple to work with myself.

Really nice wood and form.
If you think those pictures are bad then you have not seen mine. You are a master photographer compared to me. :D

Beautiful platter! You have to love ambrosia maple- it's one of my favorite woods to work with. Some nice contrast there. And the photos look good to me!

Norm Zax asks:"]...... How is it held on the lathe (on the right pic)
?"
I have a vacuum chuck. Some of the holes go go completely through. I place a piece of masking tape over the hole to get the vacuum.
Thanks to everyone for the comments. TB
