Hi Creekers, Happy easter,
I have some 100 year old redwood. That is since milled, not a young tree. My trouble is that although redwood is fairly pest resistant this is so old and dryed out that some boring insects have started to eat this wood. My wife and I would like to make a table from the wood. Can anyone tell me what I might treat the wood with to kill the existing pests? I thought of steaming the wood for some time but it would be time consuming and messy. Any suggestions for OTC remidies?
Thanks,
Bill Jepson

Bill,
I would try to fumigate the wood. I would cover the stack with some tarps and seal the edges the best you can and put a fumigant in there and let her cook for a couple 3 days. I know a product called Phostoxin that I have used before. Kills everything that crawls or walks very well! It just might be hard to a small quantity you need, but I am sure that there are other products as well.

If you do fumigate be very careful that stuff is really mean. Dump it in, seal her up and get out of there.
