Maple Burl bowl 8 x 1 3/4 with 9/32 walls. Wife decided she wanted something that looked "normal". Picked this piece of burl up from a guy on another board. It was only 2" thick so I had to think of what I could make from it. I remembered seeing David Marks turn a bowl on one of his shows and he used a design form similar so I thought I'd give it a try. All in all I'm happy with the outcome as is the wife. I gave it just enough profile that it isn't sitting totally flat. The profile pic is a little out of focus, sorry. Comments, critique welcome.
Finish is BLO, lacquer, and then buffed.

Brian - very impressive work! Amazing wood! I know how restrictive a 2" chunk of wood can be when you try to design a pleasing form that shows off the wood - you did a great job! I like the slightly closed form and the small foot area. I am still in awe of the wood! Beautiful work! About time you turned something normal!!!

That's some beautiful wood, sometimes simple forms are really the best.

Great wood and you did it right !! Very nice bowl. Simple design which is not always easy to achieve.
