View Full Version : Yet another ducting question

I have a 2HP (according to the manual, I can't find a name plate on the system at all) Rigid DC with a single 4" inlet. Without actually cutting the sheet metal there is no way to increase the opening (like I've read can be done with some of the 4" Y inlets).

Would there be any benefit of plumbing the shop with 5" and reducing to 4" to enter the DC? Would 6" change the situation for the better or for the worse?

Something says the 6" would fail miseriably as the DC could not pull nearly enough air through the 4" inlet to make it work. My focus is on if the 5" would be small enough to work and large enough to show a performance gain. Or am I stuck trying to optimize the system with 4" ducts because neither the 5" or 6" stuff will work. I've read through Bill's website but cannot come to a conclusive answer. Most of the examples there are wide inlets, wide pipes, and narrow machine outlets and not the other way around.
