Hello,
I know that I posted a simular thread a while back but it is always good to re-post.I will be going to the borg this week to pick up some 4" Pvc to start routing me DC system.Already got the blastgates adapters and Hoses.I am going with this guide http://baspluim.googlepages.com/mydustcollectionsetup
I have read all the discussions on static electricity so I really dont want to get into that.Just wanted to see some pictures of you gentlemens, and ladies DC set-ups to give me some ideas and inspiration.

Marc, Sure you want 4" PVC? I would really love to see how well he does with 60' of 4" PVC on a HFDC. What DC are you using?

I can post some pics of my small shop setup. Only useful if you have a little space like mine though...

The 60' was for estimating cost, I ended up with quite a bit of scrap cutting the various sections of pipe. Also, the duct work is in a U-shape, with the DC in one of the corners. The longest run is maybe 30ft, to the jointer. How well does it work? It gets 98% of the chips and sawdust. Does it get a lot of fine dust? A lot, but definitely not all of it. You'll still need an air cleaner, respirator & shop vac.

Sounds like a debate to me....

My best suggestion is to keep the runs as simple and short as you can, given the obstacles you may have to route the pipe around (through? :D). The lower the power of the system, the more critical this is. Make sure to use long sweep 90s, or better yet, 2 45s with a short length of straight pipe between them, for your turns. I ran my main line straight down the middle of the shop, and have 2 branches. The longest run is about 25' or so, and I have a 5 hp cyclone. My shop is 20 X 24. The TS is a dedicated drop. The drop to the BS wyes off to serve the router table, and jointer, which ever is being used at the time. The other goes to my multi purpose bench and will have muiltiple different tools hooked up to it, one at a time. You can see some pictures of my set up starting at post 60 here: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=14427&highlight=coolmeadow+creations&page=2
and more on the following pages. Jim.

Marc,
I installed the same ACE remote control on my HF DC.
Worked great for 4 months, then it blew the internal fuse (I guess).
Ace replaced it and the 2nd one lasted 1 month.
I could hear the unit click inside but no power out.
So I went with a Ranger.

Miter saw station with dust hood I would redo this hood if I had the mind too, but it works ok

Bob, that's just how a shop should look!! By the way, is that an Amana refrigerator? Looks like the same model we have, only in a larger size. Jim.

Unfortunately no matter how much organizing I do, it seems to revert back to this state whenever I get going on something. Yeah, that's an amana fridge, its been banished from the kitchen when the new stainless model came in about a year ago. We keep alot of extra stuff in it, especially during the summer. (notice the beer bottle opener on the door):D

I see you have your SAFETY FIRST notice on your bandsaw.... but I also see you don't have the electrical cover panel or door on your electrical box... right there next to the light switch...OUCH. Safety first Bob, Safety First.... (I'm just pickin' on you just so you'de know...:D)

4"pvc on a HFDC. Soon to be swapped out for a Jet DC-1900. Not really because of performance issues, I just couldn't pass it up.

Bob - nice shop. I think I have that same fence on my Delta contractor saw - I *finally* installed it last month after having it sit around for...well, I won't say how long.

I have a question about DC connection to a TS though.....what are the thoughts on a drop-down connection on top of the saw versus a connection out through the bottom of the saw? I don't typically use a blade guard or anything on top, but dealing with a hose off the side and along the floor seems like it could be annoying.

Thoughts?

I'm not really sure how a connection on top of the saw would get all the dust. If you are talking a blade guard with a dust hose attached, that will get some, but most will probably fall out the bottom. On a contractor saw, you have an open bottom as well as an open back. What I have seen done is some sort of bottom on the saw and some way of minimizing the dust exit out the back. That's probably a whole nother thread, how to engineer dust collection on a contractor saw.
