Just inherited these saws from wife's side of the family. They were used by her grandfather whose was a cabinetmaker from Germany. The larger saw is labeled Harvey W. Pierce, Brooklyn, N.Y. ( I guess he didn't take his saws with him from Germany!!) and the smaller one is labeled J. B. Darlington, cast steel. The blades are beat up with obvious waviness along the edge. I am not sure who else has abused them along the way.

As a tribute to the man and to carry on the tradition of hand tool use, I would love to use the saws. Obviously they need rehabbing. Worth the effort/cost?

Any thoughts ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hope the attached files were done right!

Sorry, just could not resist. Haven't had my first cup of coffee yet.

Bob Smalser posted some great info on saw rehab that should be available through searching. Just found out that saw is too short for searching here. Did find this:

This site has a lot of information on saws:

Ah hah! Sneaked up on the search and found the one I was looking for.

He is not working on a back saw, but the back can usually be taken off. Also, this is just a starting point and a sip from the fountain of knowledge to get you started.

Good luck with the saws.
