What's a good formula to use to get a rough estimate of how much a tree will produce by using its dimensions? Trying to figure if I should saw and kiln dry one or two walnuts that need to come down.

Ryan, go to the Woodweb site's home page and look in the left-hand column and click on lumber and timber calculators. You plug in the tree's dimensions in one of three calculators, the Doyle, International or Scribner. There was a thread about them on this forum just the other day. For your purposes it shouldn't make much difference which one you use. Just be aware when milling a tree trunk it takes what appears to be very very little crook to throw the lumber yield way off.
