Yeah, no pics - so sue me.

Jointing 8' 8" wide 8/4 twisted cherry. Took two passes on the jointer. Decided to flatten it out some with my jointer plane. Had the board laying on the infeed table with one end against the guard.

Was humming along when the wife said "Is that why you bought that jointer?" This from a woman that doesn't like power tools.

Ahem. Flipped the board over. Two passes on the big electronical tool, done.

Admittedly did run it through the planer 'cause I was getting the look...

Made it upstairs in time for dinner. Thinking of going back down now and not even bothering with those electronical tools...

Perfect timing!:D

Just don't lean on your table saw!

Good example, Gary. Knocking those corners down with the hand plane not only saved some time, but may even have saved some material, at least a little bit, because many passes over the cutter head tend to take material off over and above just the high spots, depending on technique.

Gary,
I've done this often. Much more control, and I usually end up with thicker stock than I would have with the tailed jointer alone. For those of us that only hve the 6" variety, flattening one side before going to the planer is almost as quick.
