I've been thinking of building an air cleaner for the shop. I have started searching for a fan to use. After looking at the CFMs, I am wondering why there is so much focus on the squirrel cage fans over a standard blade fan? I haven't found the 120VAC squirrel cage fans to have CFMs that are all that great. Why are the squirrel cage fans preferred? Can a standard fan be used?
