Can someone help me out with plans for an octagonal tapering jig for tablesaw or bandsaw? I'm building a bed for my daughter and that's what the design, (in my head) calls for. I usually use a handplane for four sided 30"s but 7 footers is a bit much at my age....George

You trying to make tapered octagonal columns that are 7' long.

Not to avoid your need for a design for a tapering jig but I would use a guided circular saw for this as the jig is easy to make and the cuts even easier. I have a festool for this but any CS would do.

Layout the cuts on a board, align the edge of teh cutting guide with the line, clamp down and make the cuts. 7' is long for tapers. Just a thought.

You might get some ideas from this utube video done by Charlies Neil he has a long tapering jig about 3 minutes into the video. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDERMiQwBiA)
Hope this helps Bruce
