Hi Darrell,

Your 360 view does not seem to be wrking for me -- I did look at the rest of your site, though -- nice work!

Folks, you need the Quicktime plugin installed in your browser for Darrell's 360º view to work.

Darrell,

I admire your shop; I envy your artistic gifts and woodworking skills. I live diagonally across the country from you, so I won't be able to drop by your new shop. Please know, however, that even from this distance, it's easy to see quality. All of us have benefited from the illogical steps you took following 9/11.

Thanks, again.

Thanks John!
For those of you who are puzzled by what my "illigocal steps" may be - see my little essay on the woodworking rules of design at: http://furnituremaker.com/rules_are_for_fools.htm

Darrell,

As I said in an earlier post, I would love to have been able to attend the open house. Congratulations, again, on your beautiful work place.

May I ask a question that will probably just reveal how new I am to woodworking? Why do you have your DC collection so far off the floor? It seems emptying-when-full would be a chore.

Thanks, and best wishes, again.

Hi John - Having the dust collection off the floor accomplishes 2 things
1 - it frees up floor space
2 - it gets the ductwork up higher where it can run overhead

Someday when I recover from the expense of the shop remodel - I will get a cyclone system.

Sorry I was not able to make it up the coast Darrell. I'm sure we all appreciate the invite and I know I appreciate the pics. I love your work and enjoy reading your thoughts on woodworking. It would have been a pleasure to shake your hand and tour the shop.

Awesome! Shop, work, and website, just awesome. I think I'm jealous:p.

I think thats the first time I ever saw such a clear look at the inside of a professional furniture shop.

And if I can ask a newbie question too. On the pics of the rocking chair, where you have the spline for the arms, I assume there are mechanical fasteners there, are the dark dots hole plugs, or dowels? Beautiful chair BTW.:)

Hi Matt,
I assume you are refering images of the Blacker Rocker (http://furnituremaker.com/Rocking_Chair.htm)in progress. There are no mechanical fasteners in the arm - just a floating tennon. The ebony splines serve an aesthetic purpose only. The balck dots are square ebony plugs - again for aesthetics only.
