View Full Version : Lacquer over Pigmented Shellac?

I guess the title says it all. I've been shooting a pre-cat Sherwood high-build white lacquer on MDF for paint grade cabinets and furnishings. The only issue I've had is with the edges of the MDF, which don't take the lacquer as well (I have been sealing the edges w/MH ready patch, and sanding them smooth, ala some article in FWW about MDF)

My question: anyone out there shooting lacquer over white Bin Primer? SW make a pre-cat lacquer primer, but I've been avoiding it since my distributor has a five-gallon minimum (that's a little much for me, as it has a 3 month pot life after catalyzation)

Thanks.

With post and precat lacquers, I would not use any primer that was not either suppled from the manufacturer or specifically approved by the manufacturer. It's just not a good idea and the manufacturer's warranty is probably voided.
