Here is my home made box. It is 20'x20'x20' with the frame being 1" pine. The "White" diffusing panels is Armstrong's Floating floor stuff. You know the stuff you put down before you put the flooring down so it will "float." Had some left over and thought it might work.

All of these were shot with my digital Cybershot. I know I've got a ways to go to get them really good. But I think I'm on to something. I'm also going to pull out my old Cannon AL-1 35mm SLR with Macro lenses and see what the difference an old fashion way compares.

Looks, good, Jon...that will greatly help your photography step up a notch.

BTW, a pro photographer and turner that I respect a lot (Jamie Donaldson) seriously recommends not using a blue (or other strong colored) background. The colors project into the object you are photographing and alter the color in many cases. They can also throw off the white balance, affecting how true your color is in the photos. White or 18% gray is about the best with black for certain special effects.

Thanks Jim, That was the only thing I had that fit up into the box. It is actually is some of that stuff you can make picture borders out of. I've got a gray cloth thing I will try to throw over it. And will do that before I take SLR pics.

These photos I used gray background and played with the Corel Draw effects.

Your box makes these photos POP! Makes for a nice presentation of your excellent work. Personally, I like the photos with the blue background better than the gray.

Nice pix, Jon. I too like the blue background, but can see how the gray would give more true colors. I would like to create better pictures myself but have something of a problem as the stuff I generally build is 'furniture' size. And I would rather be doing.....guess what......than spending countless hours improving pictures. Although I will spend more time in the future improving my pictures as I've been asked for several things. I also have half-baked plans for a tutorial of sorts.

How 'bout that? "Half-baked" and "of sorts" in the same sentence. Can't get much more vague than that......shoulda been a politician. :D
