This wall hanging is comprised of 72 half-cylinders and 12 half-bowls – all stave-constructed and turned. The ribbons are mounted with small posts which positions the ribbons about 1” from the backing.

Specs: 49” by 29”, 3” wide ribbons, 5/16” wall thickness, curly maple, bloodwood, blue mahoe, and mesquite, finished with General Finishes High Performance Satin (water-based). The backing is imitation black leather covering MDF (1.5” thick around the edges).

As always, all comments are welcome.

If first saw this on WoW yesterday, Malcolm, and my first thought was also, "wow"... :)

That is FANTASTIC.
Obviously you spent a lot of time planning this. I thought I had an ability to see finished forms in three dimensions (LOL), I now see that I'm a rookie.
Did you lay out the segments flat, then assemble, then turn then cut then reassemble to get this outcome????
This is a new dimension, even for you.

Bernie, "those" are all the same wall hanging. There are three different angles of view. :)

Malcolm that’s brilliant, shear genius. The different views as you change angles is an awesome effect. Keep those creative juices flowing.

WOW... this is awesome work! kinda neat how different angles have different effects on the design... when I first looked at each of these pics I thought the were different pieces... then I read your post of it being the same piece.... the second "angle" looks as though it has a "smiley face" :)

REALLY cool!

Thanks for sharing...

Three views. I see "peace sign", "smiley face", "dollar sign".

WOW doesn't begin to cover it. Malcom I sure wish I could do a mind meld with you and figure out what is going on inside there because you are such a creative genius. Beautiful work!!!

It looks so simple and yet once you start thinking about how it was done and what it takes to visualize it in the first place. It's truly impressive on many levels Malcolm. Well done.
