Hello all;

I'm trying make a cabinet door to cover the trash compactor. I'm not able to
figure out an easy way to get a center board with beads. The beads are 1/4"
round with V sides, total of 31/64" wide and about 2.5" spacing.

I haven't found any beadboard board sets in the stores that mimic this bead, most being shallow.

I've listened here and sought out solutions where I could make the board, but the tools are too expensive for such limited use...

Any ideas on where I could get something close or matching ?

Thanks.

I made the beaded boards in my dining room cabinet doors to exactly match my wainscotting by just using wainscotting boards, tongue and groove and all. The have held up well and not rattled. Home depot and Lowe's both carry wainscotting boards that are 1/4" thick and you can just assemble them into a panel and build up the door. If you can't find some that exactly match you could just make the boards individually yourself using simpler bits and fab them back together. You can glue the tongues into the grooves and let the panel float in the usual way in the door.

I haven't seen many router bits that can do a bead within a v shape.
I saw one that was in australia - some side bead cutter...

Thanks for the idea.

Just cut the tongue in one pass and then use a chamfer bit, your table saw or a block plane to create the V

I made my own beadboard for both my daughter's kitchen and our own. I made it by cutting a 1/8th grove on the tablesaw and then gluing in a 1/8th dowel. not sure if that will give you the v-grove look but it worked well for us.

I was looking at the moulding cutter blades; but for one or a few doors, it seems to be a very expensive route to go. I'm surprised I don't see more single bead knives. One was $85.

Thanks.

Make a scratcher! I recently needed to do the same sort of thing. You can make a scracthing tool from a coupe of pieces of wood and apice of saw blade. File the saw blade to match the profile you need. Mount it in a wood frame made from two pieces of wood and go to it. Here's a post that I made for a profile I needed.Scratch Tool

Lee Valley also make a tool for doing this sort of thing. Fancy Scratch tool (http://www.lie-nielsen.com/catalog.php?sku=66)

If you send me a PM I can take a photo tonight of the tool I made.
